Web GIS Challenge

Thanks to everyone who voted in the 2009 Web GIS Challenge.  Even after 200 votes, the result was still close.

And the winner is...

Australian Bureau of Statistics' CDATA Online

CDATA Online is an online tool which combines information from the 2006 Census, with web mapping capability.  This free online product allows you to create tables, maps and graphs of Census characteristics for all ABS geographic areas and to create custom geographic areas.    CData Online allows clients to service many of their own statistical needs for free.  Previously clients needed to pay for a customised request via a consultancy service, if they required any tables or maps that were not available as standard output. Now they can create their own.

Voters were particularly impressed with the innovation used to create the CDATA Online site, and clarity of the information available, as well as finding the site easy to use.  Visit the CDATA Online website.

And the runner up is...

SA Department of Water Land and Biodiversity Conservation's ALIS website
The Arid Lands Information System (ALIS) combines three services into a single system: it allows Natural Resource Management Boards to manage and report on their spatial and textual data in an integrated system; it enables the SA Government to fulfil its statutory requirements for the management of the pastoral lease regions of the state; and it provides a web portal designed to capture, consolidate and report on rangeland assets in South Australia.

Voters liked how the Department used innovation to display the site's information, and were also impressed with the functionality and overall look of the site. Visit the ALIS website.
