Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race
ESRI Australia was proud to again be a solution partner for the Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race. Our involvement in the race was through the provision of logistical software support for the race, tracking the yachts on a public web page. The site was originally developed for race control to keep an eye spatially on where the yachts were placed and what (if any) dangers they may be facing due to weather or location. Over the years, public interest in the race has expanded from people just being interested in watching the boats leave the start line, to tracking the whole race online. This public involvement swelled last year to see the site receiving well over 1.5 million hits over the 2008 Easter weekend. In 2009, over 4.8 million hits were received on the yacht tracker site.
Over the past couple of months, we have looked at the decision making process for technology, platform and delivery mechanisms, as well as looking at the history of our involvement in the race.
