GIS Day 2009
Did you know that on any given day, more than two million people around the world use GIS? Many of these GIS users will be celebrating International GIS Day on 18 November. Why not join them and celebrate all things GIS.
Earlier in the year dozens of organisations around the country celebrated Australian GIS Day. Check out below how a few of these organisations celebrated GIS Day.
Baw Baw Shire Council - Warragul VIC

Baw Baw Shire Council's GIS/Business Systems Analyst Matthew Driessen hosted his first GIS Day event, and held a morning tea for Council staff, where they all learnt more about how GIS can assist them in their jobs as well as a demonstration of new GPS technology. Their cake also looked very impressive!
Department of Environment & Resources Management - Mareeba QLD

The Department of Environment & Resource Management's Mareeba GIS team went to lots of effort for their GIS Day celebrations, with custom made GIS hats and T-Shirts, as well as playing lots of geographically challenging games. Their cake looked great too!

Yokine Primary School - Yokine, WA

Year 5, 6, 7 students fromYokine Primary School spent GIS Day using GPS loggers and ArcPad to map objects around the school. The students have also entered the Spatial Technologies in Schools (STiS) national competition, where the goal is to design the Yokine Primary School of the future.
Leichhardt Shire Council, Leichhardt NSW

Inner west Sydney's Leichhardt Council held a very popular morning tea for its staff, with two sessions held to fit in all the staff who wanted to attend.
Cardno - Wollongong NSW

The team at Cardno in Wollongong got into the spirit of GIS Day with a raffle, Find a Word, GIS quiz, and a seminar about GIS at Cardno. And they all enjoyed their "GIScuits" and globe cake too!
